I’m John – an independent bicycle wheel builder (and cyclist!) based in Stockholm, Sweden. I’ve loved the art, form and function of the handbuilt wheel for many years, starting with a journey to Romania on handbuilt wheels in 1991. (That was actually the year I first tried tensioning a wheel – happy memories!). I have also been lucky enough to learn the craft of wheel building from a legendary builder, Derek McLay of Wheelsmith, a true master. Building wheels is my passion – I spend far too long making every set that I build as good as they can possibly be!

I’m happiest looking after bikes, but I ride them as well. I’ve mountain biked extensively in the Beskid Wyspowy mountains in Poland, where I used to live. I’ve also crossed Europe a couple of times touring solo, had a wonderful Lands End to John o’Groats, and road biked in all kind of places. I’m a daily 365-day per year commuter (and used to be active in the London Cycling Campaign promoting cycling as a means of transport).
